Something to Say, Social Justice Poetry Reading

Riverwood Poetry Series presents poets its annual Social Justice Reading on Sunday, June 21st, with readings by Ocean Vuong and Rachel Wiley. The reading takes place from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Hartford’s historic Harriett Beecher Stowe Center, 77 Forest Street, Hartford.  A Q&A session follows the reading.

About the poets:

Ocean VuongOCEAN VUONG is the author of Night Sky with Exit Wounds (Copper Canyon Press, 2016). A 2014 Ruth Lilly fellow, he has received honors from Poets House, The Civitella Ranieri Foundation, The Elizabeth George Foundation, The Academy of American Poets, and a 2014 Pushcart Prize. His poems appear in the, Best New Poets 2014, Boston Review, Kenyon Review, The Nation, The New Republic, The New Yorker, Poetry, Tri-Quarterly, and American Poetry Review, which awarded him the 2012 Stanley Kunitz Prize for Younger Poets. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, he lives in New York City.

RACHEL WILEY is a poet and body positive activist. Her work has been featured on Upworthy, The Huffington Post, and Everyday Feminism. Her first full length poetry collection Fat Girl Finishing School was released in 2014 from Timber Mouse Publishing. She has performed her work at both the Dodge Poetry Festival and the Massachusetts Poetry Festival.
