Afghan Women Writers Project

Join us at 7 PM October 8th where Riverwood Poetry Series presents the Afghan Women Writers Project. Pat Mottola and Nancy Antle, who mentored Afghan women writers, joined by Afghan writers Sabra and Basira, will read from “Washing the Dust from our Hearts,” the latest book of the Afghan Women Writers Project. Following the reading they will lead a discussion of the role of poetry as a “human right” for the oppressed.

Doors open at 6:30 PM; open mic at 7 PM precedes the reading. Donations gratefully accepted.AWWP picture

About the Afghan Women Writers Project (AWWP):

AWWP provides its writers with secure online workshops where they are mentored by published women authors and educators who help them craft their writing. The project aims to promote greater economic independence for Afghan women by strengthening their self-confidence, computer literacy, and writing skills, and by encouraging the inclusion of women’s voices in Afghanistan’s national dialogue. .One goal is to bring Internet service, laptops, and books to Afghan women, including those in Taliban-controlled areas.
