Riverwood Poetry Series presents a free workshop and reading with poetry therapist John Fox, Thursday, May 12 at 6 PM at Asylum Hill Congregational Church. Please note we will be starting promptly at 6 PM, and that this event will not be preceded by our usual open mike in order to allow time for the workshop, reading, and discussion with John Fox.
About the poet:
Internationally known poet, John Fox, a certified poetry therapist, has led Poetry for Healing Workshops and Retreats for more than 30 years. He is the Author of Poetic Medicine: The Healing Art of Poem Making, and Finding What You Didn’t Loose: Expressing Your Truth & Creativity through Poem Making.
John’s work is featured in the PBS Documentary, “Healing Words: Poetry and Medicine.” John has presented at Harvard Medical School, Stamford Medical School, Omega Institute, Esalen Institute and many other wellness and cancer support communities in the United States. He has also presented his work in the United Kingdom, Israel, South Korea, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Canada.
John teaches in the graduate program of counseling psychology at Sophia University in Palo Alto, and in the Expressive Therapy Department at California Institute for Integral studies in San Francisco. He is a former Board member and President of the National Association for Poetry Therapy [1992 — 2005]. The Institute of Poetry Medicine’s projects serve marginalized people.
